AdThriver Maria Lichty set out on a national book tour in 2019 to kick off the launch of her first book: the Two Peas and Their Pod Cookbook.
From Washington, D.C. to Seattle, WA, Maria met fellow foodies across the country and shared her favorite everyday recipes with them along the way. We caught up with Maria to talk about her experience writing and launching her cookbook and what the journey was like on tour!
How did you get your start as an online content creator?
We got married in 2008 and did all of the food for our wedding. After the wedding, family and friends wanted the recipes so we put them up on a blog. We started it just for fun and had no intention of it being our business, but it really took off so we ran with it and I am so glad we did.
We’re so excited for your new cookbook! What was the writing process like?
It was a two-year process. We had one year to create recipes, test recipes, and write the book and then we had one year for photos, editing, marketing, etc. Two Peas & Their Pod Cookbook has 115 recipes: 100 NEW recipes that aren’t on the blog and 15 blog favorites!
The cookbook was VERY time intensive. I was basically working two full-time jobs for two years to keep the blog going and to write the book. We had a lot going on and a lot of food!
What advice would you give to someone who has a book in the works?
I highly recommend getting an agent to help you find the right publisher and editor. A fellow blogging friend introduced me to my agent. I love my agent and she helped me get the right deal and publisher for my cookbook. She has been in the business for a long time and made sure my proposal was seen by all of the top publishers.
Can you tell us a little bit about how your book tour came about?
I worked with my publicist to set up my book tour. The publicist was provided by my publisher and he has been great! We worked together to use all of my connections and their connections to set up promotion for the book. We tried to pick key markets/cities. I wish I could have gone to more places, but we had to draw the line somewhere. We found the right balance!
It has been so much fun! I have enjoyed traveling to different cities to do different events to promote the cookbook. I have loved connecting with my followers and meeting new people. It’s been fun to talk about the book with everyone and to hear what recipes everyone has been making.
What’s been the most rewarding part of this cookbook launch tour?
I have been blown away by all of the support from the blogging community, our followers, friends, and family. I also love that people are already making the recipes in the book and loving them! We want our cookbook to be used often and not just a pretty coffee table book.
I want people to turn to our cookbook when they need an easy weeknight meal, a delicious weekend breakfast, a special dish for the holidays, or a cookie recipe when they have a cookie craving… and so far people are using it and loving it. It makes my heart happy! It makes all of the hard work worth it to know we are helping people create meals and memories in the kitchen.
